Dr. Williams was born and raised in Ocean Springs, Mississppi. He attended the US Naval Academy and graduated with a degree in Systems Engineering. He then served in the US Navy for 6 years as a submarine officer, during which he twice deployed to the Atlantic in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Following military service, he attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, Alabama for medical school, graduating magna cum laude. He continued his training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham for an internal medicine residency and nephrology fellowship. He served as the chief nephrology fellow during his final year of fellowship.
